The Clarke Family

James was born in York District Hospital in June 1983 and transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, some 35 miles away. He was 13 weeks early and weighed 1300gms. He required surgical closure of a patent ductus (hole in the heart) when he was 4 weeks old and returned to York at 6 weeks. He came home 3 weeks before his due date, weighing 3lbs 12ozs! He has just completed an Honours year in International Relations, is a fine musician and talented sportsman. His brother, Edward, was born 2 years later just 1 week early!

Julie was the founder of the York Special Care Baby Unit Parents Support Group charity in 1984 and founded NNICUPS at Nepean Hospital, Penrith NSW in 1992. She gives regular talks to neonatal nurses and midwives and is available to help set up new support groups nationwide.

Julie was the 2nd runner up of L’il Aussie Prems “Local Premmie Hero” awards in 2009.
